Babiche Bag Workshop with Suzan Marie
This workshop series is brought to you by Yukon First Nations Culture and Tourism Association, Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre and is generously funded by Lotteries Yukon, Yukon Government, Canada Council for the Arts and the Government of Canada.Dene Babiche Bag Workshop with Suzan MarieCome and spend a week making a traditional Dene Babiche Bag with Dene author, educator and renowned artist Suzan Marie. Each day, participants will learn the techniques and processes of creating their own babiche bag, from start to finish. You’ll be leaving with a handcrafted, practical and decorative bag, personalized to your liking with porcupine quills, tufting techniques, and tassels.Suzan is an amazing source of knowledge and has played a very large role in the revival of this craft. Come listen, share, and learn. Don’t miss out on this amazing experience! This workshop is reserved for Indigenous artists.The workshop will be held at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre and will run from Monday, October 26th -30th, from 9am - 5pm each day. Lunch will be provided and COVID-19 safety measures will be in place. This workshop will require some previous sewing experience, but is open to beginners. Please make sure to indicate your sewing level on the registration form.COVID-19 safety measures:
- Tables and participants will be spaced 2m apart.
- Sanitizers and disinfectants will be available.
- Masks are not mandatory but are recommended.
